Rice is a raw material that most people use only for cooking. But did you know that it has other versatile uses? Today, we’re going to look at a few of its uses.
Clothing freshener
Do you like fragrance in your wardrobe? You don’t have to buy expensive air fresheners to do so! Even plain rice is enough to make your home smell fresh. Here’s a simple guide to what you need:
- 1 cup of white rice
- favorite essential oil
- bowl
- a piece of cloth
- gum
Place the rice in a bowl and mix it with 15 – 20 drops of essential oil. Then cover the bowl with a piece of cloth, you can use for example cotton canvas or an old T-shirt. Then secure the cloth with a rubber band. Place the bowl in a cupboard with your clothes, so that children and pets cannot access it. This freshener will last up to several months, after which it must be replaced.
Rice is excellent at absorbing moisture. Thus, if you have a problem with humidity in your apartment or have put not completely dry clothes in your closet, rice will be a great help with this problem as well.

Dry your phone
Did your phone fall into the water? You can still try to save it! You need to remove the SIM card, and the battery if you can, and put it in a bag with rice for at least 48 hours. Just don’t try to switch on your phone before then, it could be irreparably damaged. However, never use a hairdryer to dry your phone! The air from it could blow water into parts where it hasn’t gone before.

Banana
In a banana, their yellow skin changes to brown very quickly. And although even brown bananas can be eaten without any problems, they often look unpleasant and, for example, children may refuse to eat them in this state. However, if you try this next tip with rice, the banana will return to its yellow colour again.
Simply place the banana in a resealable bag and cover it with rice so that it is completely covered. Leave it in the bag for an hour. After taking it out, blow dry the banana and watch the miracle as the banana turns yellow again.
