A variety of chemicals are used. Of course, think also about the fact that you’re eating during a barbecue and you certainly don’t want to breathe in potentially dangerous fumes from insect repellents and sprays. However, there is one natural way to get rid of the little visitors and not have to resort to any drastic chemicals. Absolutely everyone has coffee at home.

Yes, it sounds very simple, and that’s exactly what it is. The recipe for repelling insects during a barbecue is nothing complicated and can be done by absolutely anyone. What’s more, the success rate is surprisingly high, which is definitely a nice bonus for a wonderful experience during an evening barbecue. Therefore, prepare the following ingredients in advance:

  • coffee grounds,
  • plate or bowl,
  • hot carbon.

Take the coffee grounds from your morning coffee, for example, and put them in a bowl or tray. You can also use a piece of foil shaped into a makeshift bowl. Add the hot coals from the barbecue to the grounds. This will cause the coffee grounds to release a steam full of coffee fumes. And that’s exactly what’s ideal for repelling pesky insects. Plus, you don’t have to worry about any fumes poisoning your food. The only thing that can happen is that the smell will make you crave more coffee.

What is the reason that this simple trick actually works? The reason is the specific composition of the coffee. Its strong aroma is so special that it simply repels insects. In fact, the smell of coffee covers up the tempting smell of food or people that greedy mosquitoes want to sit on. However, from our point of view, there is nothing harmful to breathing it and it is a fully ecological method in which no small organism in the form of insects will be killed. In short, it will only be disgusted by the unpleasant smell and will rather avoid your barbecue party and end up at the neighbours’, who don’t know the coffee grounds trick.
