These beautiful flowers are a decoration of apartments and houses. You can buy them not only in florists, but also in supermarkets. They do not cost much money, but they make a lot of joy. But sometimes they don’t want to grow or bloom. It is the improper care, which if you learn, you will not regret and even plants that have not bloomed for a long time will bloom.
The flower grows in nature on trees
In natural conditions, the orchid has plenty of light available, enjoys warmer temperatures during the day, and prefers cooler temperatures at night. If you provide such conditions in your home, you can be sure that the flower will thrive and grow well. There are several reasons why a plant does not want to grow.
Among the first is overwatering the plant. Orchids are usually put in water once every 10-14 days to take only as much water as they need. Use mostly soft, room temperature water for this. Once a month you should remove dust from the leaves with a damp cloth.
If you do not give the plant enough light, it will not grow. These types of plants like bright spots, but should not be in direct sunlight. Otherwise, they may burn or not bloom at all. An orchid will do best on a windowsill where the sun only shines in the morning. Grow the plant in a clear pot so you can see clearly when you need to repot the plant.
Orchids like moisture and the right fertilizer
If there isn’t enough moisture in the air, plants can get in bad shape. The exception is the phalaenopsis variety, which can handle dry air, but not for long. If you want to help the flower, you can put it in a glass container. First, put a layer of charcoal in the bottom and an orchid substrate on top. It should be light and allow the roots to get air. After watering, close the container and reopen it when water appears on the walls.
Poor care can also be characterized by poor substrate. Special ones are sold for orchids, because in nature they are not in the ground, but on tree branches. They draw nutrients through the leaves and roots. A common mistake growers make is to transplant the plant into regular soil, but there are limited roots. It is therefore best to grow orchids in a mixture of bark and plant fibre.
