Experienced housewives wash laundry only when it’s freezing, use it to dry efficiently

Do you have a tumble dryer at home but need to dry your laundry very quickly? Then this article is for you. We will advise you on how to dry your clothes as quickly as possible and not dry for half a day. Which is often the case, especially if the washing machine doesn’t wring out the clothes properly.

Freezing laundry

Do you remember your grandmother drying laundry on a line outside instead of hanging it in front of the stove, even in the worst of winter? If not, we’re going to remind you now. Our grandmothers were very ingenious, and what they did was never an accident. They knew that freezing was one of the best methods of drying. This trick works very well and will replace your dryer completely. Either low outdoor temperatures or a regular freezer will do the trick.

What needs to be done?

Take the wet clothes and put them in the freezer. This method is called freeze-drying or freeze-drying. If you can get the thermometer below freezing, the laundry will first freeze and then undergo what is called a phase transition, when the ice turns into a gaseous state. So when you take your clothes out of the freezer, you will see that they are much drier than when you put them in.

Why does it work?

Cold air and very low humidity is why this trick works so well. Our grandmothers were really environmentally friendly in homes. And although they may not have been as aware of it, they didn’t waste as much energy as we do today using the washing machine, dryer and of course the iron, which we certainly couldn’t do without.

Drying outdoors in freezing weather

As winter approaches, however, you don’t have to rely on your freezer alone. You can hang your laundry on a clothesline in the freezing cold, just like grandmothers used to do back in the day. They didn’t even have a quicker option when they didn’t know the dryer and other conveniences of today. The only thing that helped them dry their laundry quickly was:

  • Frost
  • Low humidity
  • Wind

Benefits of such drying

One of the biggest advantages is the considerable energy savings. A dryer, like any other appliance, consumes a large amount of electricity, which will of course be reflected in the electricity bill. A dryer in your apartment is also not the most ideal solution, even though it may seem so.  Soon your windows will become clogged and mould may start to form in your apartment due to the increased humidity. So, in the open air, this will be ideal. It’s just a matter of habit, and once you get used to it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the results.
