Garlic is one of the most popular spices not only in the Czech Republic, but also in other countries. It can be used in various forms. For example, pickle it in oil to create a perfect and flavorful topping, roast it, bake it or simply add it to soups and meats. But if you have a surplus of garlic and nowhere to store it, you’ll certainly find some tips on how to preserve this flavourful vegetable useful.
How to store garlic
A cool environment and dry air is a must for garlic. A home dark pantry can serve perfectly. Here you can store your garlic in a basket or paper bag. Try to spread the garlic slightly. Keeping the garlic in a really dark place will prevent early germination. If you have garlic from your own garden, you should let it dry out and then store it. It is not recommended to store garlic in the fridge. It can only go in the fridge when you have peeled or chopped it. Unpeeled, it could catch mould, and this is certainly not ideal for your health.

Storage garlic in winter
Another way to store garlic in the winter will be simple. Grate it or don’t mash it and put it in a jar along with salt. Garlic pickled in this way must be placed in the refrigerator at all times. Another way is to pickle the peeled garlic in olive oil. You can add chillies to the oil and have a perfect accompaniment to pasta or other dishes. Perhaps you could even use garlic pickled in this way as a gift for a loved one.

How to store bear garlic
Bear garlic, or wild garlic, is grown only from the green leaves. And these are perfect and delicious vegetables for various salads or even on bread. Such garlic can only be kept in the fridge for a few days. If you want to enjoy its distinctive and delicious flavour for longer, and also its perfect health benefits, make pesto with it. For this you will need finely chopped garlic leaves, salt, a few drops of lemon and olive oil. Mix the ingredients and then place them in boiled jars.
