Every visit to the hairdresser’s salon is not without one important question: “How do you want your hair?” A standard question to which there are a million answers, but which may be the wrong answers. You’re finally about to take the bold step of making a proper change to your look, and in the end, it can be a real disaster. It can be quite difficult to determine the right hairstyle for yourself – the color, the shape, the length, all of these can completely change your look. That’s why the next time you sit down in the hairdresser’s chair, you’ll never go wrong thanks to the following tips.
Face Shape
Before choosing a new hairstyle, it’s important to consider the shape of your face. There are several types:
- Round
- Heart-shaped
- Oval
- Square
If you are not sure about the shape of your face, you can ask your hairdresser. They are often trained to give similar advice. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, it will make a lot of decisions easier. Now let’s look at the different face shapes and what hairstyles work best with them.

Round Face
Do you have a round face and don’t want it to be too pronounced? If you want to narrow it, the best way to do that is to choose straight or wavy hair parted along the face. Definitely avoid too much volume around the ears and hair just below the ears. This will make your face look even rounder than it actually is and visually add pounds.
Heart Face
People with a heart-shaped face often have puffy cheeks, a broad forehead and a narrow chin. If you belong to this group of people, you’re in luck, because a great many hairstyles suit this face shape. Lots of volume on your head will accentuate your face, you can even go for something bolder like bangs or a mikado.
Oval face
Just like a heart-shaped face that can take a lot of hairstyle ideas, people with oval faces have plenty of options to choose from. People with this face have slightly rounded cheeks and jaws narrower than their cheekbones. Medium-length hair looks best on this type of face, such as a horseshoe, a mikado or a slightly blown-out hairstyle. What is best avoided are shorter hairstyles, as they put emphasis on the top of the head and will make your face look even longer.
Square face
The characteristic of a square face is that you have prominent, square jaws. So it’s likely that you’ll want to soften the emphasis on them a bit. Bangs with the rest of the hair along the face may help. You can also use more volume, which will make your jawline less noticeable. Try curls or cropped hair.
